"My head was completely bald." My Natural Hair Story

Hi Fabs!
I began my natural hair journey in July 2013. Before deciding to take this journey, I did not love the hair that grew from my own scalp. I hid it with relaxers, weaves and wigs while neglecting my own hair. In December 2012, I had a sew-in in my hair. When it was time to take the the weave out, I began unraveling the extensions from my hair. As I began to move to the crown of my scalp, I realized that my hair was coming out! Once I was completely done, the middle of my head was COMPLETELY BALD!! I was shocked, embarrassed, upset, frantic. I didn't know what to do!! I ran to YouTube and different websites to find other women who may have had balding hair issues and then ran to the nearest beauty supply store to buy all types of oils, shampoos and bundles of hair to make a wig! As my hair began to slow develop a "'peach fuzz" and eventually grow back, I made a commitment to myself to take better care of my hair. Before then, I payed special attention to my weaves WAY more than I did to my own hair which resulted in thin hair! I felt foolish! This prompted me to follow a few women who specialized in natural hair on YouTube. I watched their hair progressively grow into such beautiful, big and full hair. It then occurred to me that the big full wigs that I loved so much, could actually be my own hair if I just showed it some love and started over. While waiting for my bald spot to grow back, I wore a wig and after about 4 months of it growing, I cut the rest of my hair to the length of my new growth in the middle of my scalp. Immediately after I cut it, I looked at myself and thought "this isn't bad, I'm beautiful!" I put on a little makeup on and ran to get my phone. Being the self-proclaimed "Selfie Queen" that I am, I took about 20 headshots! haha I created a picture collage and decided to post the "new me" on my Facebook and Instagram. Before hitting that post button, I hit cancel atleast 10 times. I was so nervous! "What are my friends, family and people that don't even matter going to think?" I thought. But a wave of confidence came over me and I did it! I instantly received so much love and compliments, even from women that I didn't even know. From that day forward, I have not looked back. I have never ever felt more beautiful and secure with my own self.
This journey has inspired me to reach out to other young girls and women who may struggle with loving their natural beauty. We are all beautiful fabs! Let's celebrate that!

My big chop debut in 2013!
