Since becoming natural, I watch YouTube all the time. I started out watching for hair tutorials but it has eventually blossomed into me watching tutorials about fashion, makeup and skin. I also enjoy watching family vlogs, story time sessions and much more! However, one of my all time favorite tutorial videos that has inspired me comes from such a Fabulous Fashionista that I follow on YouTube and Instagram. Her name is StylesByFash. A few years ago, I started watching her channel. I would watch her videos and become inspired by the lovely way that she wore her make up and clothes. I was drawn to her. She looked like me- a young woman of color. Yet, she didn't shy away from wearing an array of different color lipsticks. Growing up, I often heard these myths of dark skin girls not being about to wear bright colors on their lips and as I became a woman, this stuck with me. Up until a couple years ago, I never wore anything on my lips except for shiny lip gloss. One day while watching videos on StyleByFash's channel, I came across a video that she posted about women with deeper skin tones wearing lipstick. She had all these different color lipsticks and showed how they all worked with her skin tone. That video really opened my eyes to see that regardless of what complexion you are, you can add some color to your face and look beautiful. Since that video, I have rocked many colors on my lips and looked fierce while doing it! The main secret to being able to wear any color lipstick is to have wear a lip liner that transitions your lips into the color of choice. My favorite lip liner is Chestnut Brown by MAC. I pair it with just about any lip stick color and it looks great!
Since being introduced to lipsticks, I can't live without them. It completes my look and gives me that extra "umph" that I need to feel sexy. The key to wearing anything is confidence. Being able to own your look and be proud is really all you need. Your lipstick is just the accessory. I hope that this post inspires those "lipstick shy" women of color to experiment with wearing bold colors. My favorite is Ruby Woo by MAC. It's my staple and it can add some glam to even the simplest look. Here is the link to the video that I was referring to. Take a look: How to Make Lipsticks Work On Deeper Skin Tones
